Adobe / Macromedia Flash is a way of creating a site that is based on a video / graphic display effect, and is highly successful for building very visual and attractive sites. However, although Flash websites may look better than any others in many market areas, they are invisible to search engines, who by and large cannot read the content. 

Some of the more sophisticated search engines can read a little of the content - but only under duress as in general they don't rank them highly. Search is based, in the main, on text - and a Flash site has none.
